The Maundy Thursday words of Jesus' new commandment are haunting: Love one another. This slow blues shines the spotlight on moments of Jesus' ministry told in the gospels where he showed great love. 

Lenora, Gary, and Hannah Rand of "The Many" have just written and recorded this beautiful song as part of the "We Stand With Love" campaign.  "We Stand With Love" has a great website with instructions on how to get involved with this campaign to help congregations focus on God's Love and Grace this Fall in particular as the presidential election approaches.  There are some great resources and instructions on how to participate and who is involved at www.westandwithlove.org

This song is in Spanish, is arranged for choirs, and is part of an "Oscar Romero Cantata" written by Tracy Howe Wispelwey. The Cantata is based on the homilies of Arch Bishop Romero who was assassinated in El Salvador in 1980 for speaking out against human rights violations and particularly defending the most vulnerable among the poorest of the poor. According to the composer, "this is a song repenting of materialism and recognizing God's will and blessing on all God's people." An upbeat rocking song with a catchy hook based on Psalm 58 that names systemic injustice and oppression.  This song has some guts and is a strong call for introspection and "uprooting corruption even when it serves us." 

This upbeat Easter song emphasizes hope and resilience and is a particularly good fit for this time in history. The chorus of the song includes the line "In the valley of the shadow, we're the candle in the window, saying Hope will rise again." This song includes springtime nature images in the lyrics. It can also be used throughout Eastertide. Stylistically, this is an Americana song and the chord structure will be accessible for a worship band. This is a very singable and easy to learn chorus by Troy Hatfield, one of the musical leaders of Mars Hill Church in Grand Rapids, MI.  The lyric is a beautiful reminder of Psalm 46:12 which tell us that because God is with us--especially in the midst of trouble--we do not need to be afraid. 

Fear--it's being thrown at us and sold to us and used to manipuate and control folks in so many ways.  We all have our own personal fears as well.  We hope and pray that little choruses like this will help us respond to fear with Spirit-centered love and strength and freedom.

This is a song of longing for "Green hearts" and gardens that need to be planted. It includes spoken parts in between the repeatable chorus that could be done by various readers within a congregation.
